Well, I am excited for this week's Follower Friday because this is the first of 35 Follower Fridays so far where I am featuring someone I've met in real life!  I'm hoping for you to meet a few of the other wonderful ladies in the CMQG too.  Vickie of Spun Sugar Quilts is my first volunteer!  Vickie is one of the original Moda Bake Shop Chefs.  She has many patterns published in magazines and she is a part of the new MBS book Fresh Fabric Treats!  Did you hear her on Pat Sloan's Creative Talk Radio show earlier this week?  Let's meet her....

Vickie of Ashland, Ohio

Occupation:  I am a dentist.

Significant Other/Kids/Pets:  I have been married nearly 12 years and have 2 girls ages 10 and 4.

# of years quilting:  I have been quilting for about 15 years.

How you learned to Quilt:  I am basically self-taught in terms of quilting. I did take basic sewing and garment construction starting at age 8.  My mom didn’t have time to teach me with 5 kids under her wing.
I have done many crafts including crochet, knitting, stamping, scrapbooking, card making, rug hooking, cake decorating and embroidery.

I started quilting because after doing dentistry all day during dental school and then working as a cake decorator on evenings and weekends my hands and wrists hurt too much to crochet. I have basically given up crocheting and completely devote my craft time to quilting with a bit of knitting mixed in.  How I “self taught” was from a book by Fons and Porter called Quilter’s Complete Guide and Little Quilts All Through the House by Little Quilts.

Favorite Completed Project Description:  That’s like asking me to pick which of my kids I love more. It’s not possible. LOL I love everything I make in one way or another.

For some eye candy, I added Vickie's latest MBS tute pic here...

Quilting workstation setup:

I own a Viking Lily 540 and Janome Memory craft 6600 in Ohio and a Brother at my South Carolina home.
My favorite notion right now is my Go! Cutter. It has changed my life in terms of cutting kits and quilts for myself and my mother in law. As you know, I cut nearly all of her quilt projects.

To keep up with Vickie and all that she's up to, check out her blog Spun Sugar Quilts, see her stuff on flickr or tweet with her.

  1. Can anyone say envious? Look at that craft space! Oh my word, I am so sad. I sew in the dining room and have things in every closet in the house.
    Vickie is one talented lady.
