Making Sister Sampler Quilts the Book

Someday I had hoped that I would be able to say I'd written a book.  It's one of those bucket list items.

See the Grand Canyon.
Travel across Europe.
Write a book.

Little did I know that this dream would become a reality for me in 2015.  Holy cow!  Advance copies of Sister Sampler Quilts have started to show up in some places (here and here if you need a gift asap).  And although the official release date is near, it's still a little hard to believe.  But I've held it in my hands. I've shared with those at Quilt Market.  I've even signed over 100 copies already.

It's time to start sharing the story of this book with you...
Last year at Quilt Market, I met with the folks from Fons and Porter/F&W both in the spring and the fall.  I had met with the acquisitions editors previously, but things hadn't worked out.  I felt I wasn't ready.  I was a bit afraid of putting myself out there.  And knowing how much time and effort go into writing a book, I wanted to be sure I could give it 110%.

The "Sisters" concept of the book really started to take shape and my heart began to sing.  Whereas before I knew I wasn't ready, this book was perfect and I didn't hesitate.

The past year has been a whirlwind.  I signed the book contract around the same time my first paper patterns arrived for the Moccasin BOM.  12,000 patterns showed up on my doorstep and my husband looked at me and said "You need a real studio".  We moved my studio (which was spread all over the house) into our large and mostly empty master bedroom - and my husband and I moved our things into one of the guest bedrooms.  I set up shop and disappeared for a while for everything book.  He took the kids to Grandma's so I could work.  I spent a week at the publisher's studio in Cincinnati shooting all the step-by-step photos and video.  Yes, video - eek!  The designing, writing, drawing, sewing, editing, re-editing, photography and videography have all been done.

And it's about to make it's big debut.  I hope you like it!  I'll be sharing more and more with you about the book over the next few months.  There will be a blog tour in the middle of January so you can see other's thoughts and "sister" blocks.  It's going to be a ton of fun!

I've created a website for the book to be a central location for all things Sister Sampler Quilts.  Check it out if you have some time.

And thank you to all who read here for sharing in this creative journey.  This quilting community is such a big part of my life.  Thank you for your inspiration too! Pin It

  1. Congratulations AnneMarie - it's so nice to see things come together for you! I still need to finish off Moccasin, but can't wait to start Bonfire. I'm still waffling on what colour scheme to use.
