Soothing Sunflowers Quilt Block / Pillow

Remember that Soothing Sunflowers quilt from Today's Quilter magazine I showed you a couple weeks ago?  Well, I got the bug to try out the block.  I like to challenge myself with new things, and it had been a while since I sewed any y-seams.

Enter Soothing Sunflowers.  It starts with a Dresden Plate.  Then you add leaves and diamonds to make 12 y-seams.  Whew!
The y-seams weren't as bad as I expected.  I've done just a few before, but never this many in the same block.  Everything came out pretty well with limited cussing.

I decided to turn the block into a pillow and appliqued the whole hexagon block onto a 16 1/2" square of aqua houndstooth.  Then added a little FMQ on top.
There she is!  This pillow was a nice little distraction from all the work I'm supposed to be doing.  Sometimes it seems that running a pattern business leaves very little time to sew.  After about a week with no sewing, I usually break down and have to make something.  A block here and there is the perfect fix.

  2. I love your pillow. I have been collecting modern fabric for awhile now and this pillow will be a great way to start using it.
