5 Years

Jul 8, 2015
Pin It Holy cow.  It's the summer of 2015 - and that, my friends, means I have been writing here in this little space called Gen X Quilters for 5 years.  5 years!  Who knew I had that much to say.  And all about quilting nonetheless.
I don't normally mention this milestone each year, but I got to thinking and 5 years is quite a commitment.  In 2010, social media didn't have the mega presence it does today. This blog has weathered the storm as many left this platform for shorter, more convenient forms of sharing sewing creativity.  And yet, I still come here to write to you once or twice a week.

When I first started blogging, I had hopes of turning this passion of mine into a business.  Now 5 years later, I can truly saying I am happy with my path.  Designing quilt patterns and sampler/block of the month quilts has truly become a part of me.  I find inspiration where ever I look.  And sitting down to sew is still soothing and relaxing.  I'm at my happiest when I'm turning an idea into a handmade quilt.

Thank you for being a part of this space.  It means so much to me be able to share my work with you and to see what all of you are making.
To celebrate this mighty milestone, I am hosting a giveaway.  See that pretty pic below?  My stash overfloweth and despite my best hoarding efforts, I've decided there is no way possible I can ever sew them all.  So instead of destashing, I've decided to pick a bundle of my own pretties and give them away to you.
Do you see that stack?  It has over 50 fat quarters. (I've actually added more since taking this pic.)  Some half yards may have snuck in too.  My hopes is that the winner will give new life to these fabrics or pass them along.  They are much better off in a quilt than sitting on a shelf!

Designers included:  Melody Miller (C+S); AMH; Allison Glass; Laura Gunn; Bonnie & Camille; Amy Butler; Patty Young; Lotta Jansdotter; Denyse Schmidt; Echino and more!  *Note a few of the FQs may have a square cut out of them.  Please don't be mad if I'm giving away 50! These 2 OOP and HTF are included.)
If you would like a chance to win, enter the giveaway below. (Giveaway ends Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 11:59pm)

I haven't made any of your patterns yet but I've bookmarked several

  3. Congrats Anne Marie! I really and truly enjoyed participating in your Vice Versa BOM last year. It was my first "real" quilt. I made many newbie mistakes, and lots of things went wrong, including improbable things like my dog pulling my sewing machine cord and causing the machine to crash onto the floor, while my quilting was half done! (The machine had a crack but still worked. And the dog is still alive.) Anyway, the quilt got done and I learned so much.

I entered my quilt in the novice category at my guild's quilt show this Spring and it won third prize :) Thank you for your well-written pattern and for writing this wonderful blog. Best of luck to you!

  32. Congratulations on 5 years! I have loved your Quilt Block Library. What a great resource! I've repeatedly admired your adorable patchwork napkins. Haven't had a chance to make any yet though. :-)

  33. I originally found your GenX blog as I was looking for directions for a grocery bag holder. I not only used that tutorial, but have made several baby gifts using your tutorials for the baby washcloths, changing mat, and burp cloths. I have also been teaching myself how to quilt these last two years and have really enjoyed all the quilting information you provide. I have learned a lot from your Patchwork Audition series and have played around with all the blocks that you have shown so far.

I have also learned about many wonderful online fabric stores from GenX. My fabric stash has grown immensely...it's so easy to shop from home!

Thank you so much for your concise and well written tutorials and quilting tips. I always look forward to your blog entries. This giveaway is so generous....thanks for an opportunity to win all that great fabric!

  106. Happy Anniversary and congratulations! I haven't yet had the pleasure of making your things but I am just now, after a couple of years of sewing beginning to branch out and make things for myself or just simply to practice to improve my skills. There are a few blogs I follow with this in mind and yours is one of them. There is nothing specific I can think of that I want to see but just keep on doing what your doing and that is plenty good enough for me!

  146. I have been following you for several years, not sure how many. I read all you posts and learn lots from your tutorials, quilting 101, and get many ideas from your quilt blocks. Consider myself a newbie still, even though I have been working at making quilts for at least 5 years. Sew much I want to make and sew little time to do it. poladydwd(at)yahoo(dot)com
