Today I am featuring Emily of Mommy's Naptime.  Emily and I are both a part of the {Sew} Beautiful Bee.  She is a great sewist and I really admire her miniature piecework.  She's SO good at such small work!  We had the pleasure of meeting at The Sewing Summit when our bee had a dinner one evening.  Let's learn more about her!

wip wednesday - 01/25/12

Pin It Focus.  Focus.  That is my motto for the next 2 months.  I usually have several projects going at once and work on each through the week.  In order to start checking items off the baby sewing list, I am channeling my focus.  One project at a time.

Here's this week's progress.

Wonky Star Baby Quilt.  Last week I laid out my Hideaway charms and started plugging away on 9 wonky star blocks.  These are perfect - quick, easy, and I am loving the way the colors are popping.

Overall, the quilt top is around 36" square, I think.  Perfect for a baby playmat.

This quilt will solely use fabrics from my stash....  I had to supplement the charms with a few pieces from my stash. (like the yellow polka dot from above)  Now I just need to get this puppy basted and quilted!

Follower Friday: Meet Amy of AmyLouWho

Pin It Happy snowy Friday!  We have our first snow here in Columbus, and I have to say I am glad it's here now.  Otherwise, it will show up in April??  Today I am featuring a real sweetie, Amy of AmyLouWho, who I met at the Sewing Summit.  She came up to me to tell me she liked my gigantic Cosmo bag, and then we realized who each other were.  What a fun and friendly gal!  You also probably know her from the fun Friday event she hosts, Show & Tell Friday.  Let's learn more about her!

wip wednesday - 01/17/12

Pin It I am trying to get things accomplished and checked off the list!  Here's this week's wip update.

Supernova Quilt  I was in a rush to get this to the longarm quilter and my forgetful brain did not remember to snap a picture of the top before I dropped it off.  Here is a pic of all 9 blocks.  The border contains some Kona Khaki at the star burst points.  I think I am on schedule to get this back, bound, and entered into the show by April 30.  I'm hoping to finish and enter before baby comes (fingers crossed!).

Rockin' Robin Quilt  Remember this quilt top from the QAL I co-hosted over the summer?  It's been sitting in my UFO pile since then...just waiting.  I was going to try some experimental quilting patterns myself....but now it's at the point that I. just. want. it. Done.  Off to longarm quilter with the one above.

Bookshelf Mini Quilt  Now this one IS done!  A little mini to pose for the Block Library.  I used Elizabeth's tutorial and whipped this one up in no time.  I didn't notice it wasn't square until I took these photos.  Hmm... that'll show me to skip over that step!

I tried some new-to-me for the quilting on this one.  I figure it's time to branch out of my stipple comfort zone and a mini is the perfect place to test drive.  Pebble quilting.  I love the look....  I don't love how long it takes.  I don't think I would ever use this technique on a large quilt.  But it adds such character to something small like this.

Baby Sewing  Who forgot to inform me that my due date is 9 weeks away?  Not sure what happened here.  There's the list.  I haven't started anything I want to sew for baby.  Fortunately, most of the items are smaller, easier projects.  We'll see how much I get done!

Making the list gave me the kick in the pants I needed.  So today, I laid out my HideAway charm pack to make a small playmat quilt for baby.  I was going to do one boy quilt and one girl quilt... but seriously?  There's no way at this point!

Snowman Quilt Finish: A long time UFO

Pin It This quilt is a looooong time coming.  In fact, I would never have finished it if my kids hadn't found it in the depths of my sewing space and gotten excited about it.  I'm thinking I started this in 2008.... a time that was B.M.F.s (Before Modern Fabrics) for me...

It's Follower Friday friend time!  Have I ever mentioned that my actual favorite part of Follower Friday is the conversations I get to have with each featured person behind the scenes?  To me, the best part of these interviews is getting to know people.  Today's featured quilter is Kaelin of the Plaid Scottie - and I've really enjoyed getting to know her better through setting up today's post.  I met Kaelin at the Sewing Summit where she organized a sweet FQ swap after hours.  I originally missed the deadline to participate in the swap, but volunteered to help out anyway.  She was kind enough to let me in once others had to dropout.  She's got a spunky style..... let's learn more about her!

Stashing and A Self-Imposed Cutoff

About a year and a half ago, I literally had no stash.  I went and bought fabric for each project I was starting.  And that was it.  A year and a half ago was also when I started blogging, discovered modern fabric, and started seeing the gorgeous shelves of other sewists filled to the brim with fabric.

Handmade Holiday - a Little Late

Pin It Better late than never with the handmade gifts, right?  I did some small scale sewing for Christmas this year.  No big quilts to make the pressure stress me out, but a few fun projects to make a little something special for my family....

wip wednesday - 01/04/12

Pin It Now that all the secretive sewing of December is done, I hope to participate in more wip wednesday's over at Lee's.  A good way to keep myself moving along on projects, and hopefully, keep the list short.  Here we go....

Let 'er wip!

1.  Supernova quilt.  My goal was to finish these blocks by NYE.  But I ran out of Kona pfd and by the time I made it to Joann's on Jan. 2, they were completely sold out.  Grrr...  I even dragged the whole family there while we were out in other errands.  I have completed 7 of 9 blocks.

2011 & 2012 Reflections

Pin It It's time to wrap up 2011 - what a crazy year. I could not have predicted the sewing frenzy that would engulf my life. In a good way. I have grown so much during this past year. But the best part is that I still feel like I'm climbing. There are so many more things I want to learn, explore, and accomplish. All in good time though. After all, there are only so many hours in a day.
