Follower Friday: Meet Kristen of K-D Quilts

Feb 3, 2012
Pin It Welcome to this week's edition of Follower Friday.  Today we are featuring Kristen of K-D Quilts!  Kristen has a cute and modern style... and she does a little of everything (modern quilts, hexies, Farmer's Wife-ing, designing her own patterns and a custom shop)!  Let's learn more about her....

Kristen of Knoxville Tennessee

Occupation:  Currently, I am a stay at home mom.  I just officially opened KD-Quilts.com store to earn a little extra money to help out around here!  I was a pre-kindergarten teacher before I quit to have my little one.

Significant Other/Kids/Pets:  I have been happily married for almost 4 years.  We have a one year old son and a dog baby.

# Years Quilting:  I have been sewing for a long time, but I have been quilting for 3 1/2 years.

How you learned to quilt:  I taught myself how to quilt.  I had the knowledge of how to sew and really wanted to make a quilt for myself.  I used Amy Butler's Brick Path pattern to make my first quilt and learned everything else that I know about quilting from blogs and books.

Favorite Completed Project Description :  I think my favorite completed project is my Kalidescope quilt.  I participated in Don't Call Me Betsy's quilt along to give me the push I needed to make this quilt.  It has always been on my list to make, but other things just always had to be done first.  I'm so glad I finally just focused on making it!

Quilting workstation setupI have a love hate relationship with my sewing workspace.  When we had our little one we needed the extra bedroom to be the nursery.  So that means there is no other space other than the dining room as my work space.  We call it the office/studio/dining room/living room.  Our main level has a open living room/dining room combo space.  It's nice because I'm not shut away from the family in here.  I can be sewing and still be with family at the same time.  The bad part is meal time.  I don't clean up everything, but try to leave half the table clear for dinner.  Unless we are having company, then everything has to be put away.

Machine(s) you sew on:   I sew on a Janome and I LOVE it!  I actually just got it last week when my main machine broke down.  I couldn't be happier with the new machine!

Your favorite notion/tool in your sewing room:   My favorite notion is my mini ironing mat.  It's so nice to have my iron and mat right next to me so I don't have to get up to press all of those little seams! I think If I had to walk across the room every time something needed to be pressed I wouldn't actually do it!

Thank you so much for having me AnneMarie! This is a great series; I always love learning more about the people behind the blogs!
