Erin of Salt Lake City, Utah
Occupation: Wife, Mom, Blogger, Sewing Summit founder
Significant Other/Kids/Pets: I’ve been married 12 years to my husband, Marc, and we have 2 boys- Mason, 5, and Grahm, 2.
# Years Quilting: I’ve been sewing & quilting off and on my whole life, but really started getting into it about 5 years ago, right before Mason was born. Then when my husband decided to go back to school for his Phd, I found myself with a lot more time on my hands and really got into the sewing blogging world. I’m so addicted now!
How you learned to quilt: From sewing blogs, YouTube videos & just winging it! To me, the idea behind making a quilt is easy (cutting fabric up & sewing it back together) as long as you break it down into manageable steps. I’m not afraid to try anything at least once, either.
Favorite Completed Project Description : My favorite completed project right now is my Bee Tweet Virtual Quilting Bee quilt - 11 great friends each made me a crazy scrappy wonky block that I sewed up into one terrifyingly awesome quilt.
It’s really wild & loud but I love it & I use it every day. I love that it’s made by some of the people I’ve been friends with online the longest.
Quilting workstation setup: I’m super lucky to have an extra room in our house that I can use as my sewing room. It’s in the basement so it doesn’t get the best light & gets really cold in the winter, but I can let fabric get strewn all over the place & keep projects out on the tables, so I don’t complain too much. I currently have it set up with a U shaped area with my sewing machine, cutting station & ironing board (with my laptop close by too) and it’s working out great.
I found out that CD/DVD shelves from IKEA work great to hold fabric! I love that they’re tall and skinny and they hold lots of yardage!
And just to keep it real, lest you think that my sewing room looks that pristine at all times (hint: no way) here’s a picture I took right after the Christmas-present-sewing-madness-rush last year. Disaster!
Machine(s) you sew on: I have a few machines, but the main machine I’m using right now is the BabyLock Grace. It’s a solid little machine with a few nice extras that make it super fun to work on. It has a quarter-inch stitch that’s great for piecing. I also just recently got a serger - which both excites & terrifies me. All that threading! The fact that it has a knife in it! Scary.
Your favorite notion/tool in your sewing room: Favorite notion has to be the rotary cutter. Quilting today wouldn’t be what it is without that fabulous little tool! But my favorite things in my sewing room are the bright & beautiful mini quilts I’ve received from friends. They make my room so cheery & me happy to look at them every day.
You can find me at my blog, Two More Seconds, blogging about daily life & the sewing projects I do. You can find more about the Sewing Summit conference here (you should come!). And I’m kind of addicted to Social Media, you can follow me on Twitter or Flickr (and Instagram & Facebook too!) Thanks so much for having me, AnneMarie!!
Love that picture of your Christmas rush sewing room, Erin.... we've all been there! Have a great weekend everybody! Pin It
