Handmade Holiday - a Little Late

Jan 6, 2012
Pin It Better late than never with the handmade gifts, right?  I did some small scale sewing for Christmas this year.  No big quilts to make the pressure stress me out, but a few fun projects to make a little something special for my family....

I made 3 journal covers for my Mom, MIL and SIL.  Each one seemed to really like it.  I used the tutorial from Smashed Peas and Carrots (minus the ruffles) and everything went together very easily.
I also used a variety of labels I had from the Sweetwater Label Crew to accentuate the front covers.  I appliqued the labels in place and secured with a small zig zag stitch.
Now I just need to make a couple of these for myself for nursing journals.  I'm putting that on my list.

A while ago, my little SIL tried to commission me to make one of my Grocery Bag Dispensers for her and her fiance.  I declined at that point in time, blaming 1st trimester drowsiness.  I thought instead I'd gift it to her for Christmas.

I used my own tutorial (!) from last March.  I'm glad to say the entire project took me about 2 hours (one naptime) to complete.  It's nice to know how long it actually takes to make a project when you don't have to snap photos of each step.  Easy to whip up!
I just love the colors of this Heirloom print... it will hopefully go well with her kitchen!

  1. Nice Nice Nice. Homemade can be so much more personal. I think it means more when you go through the trouble to find the perfect fabric and spend the time to make something.

  6. I am catching up on my reading, so here come a lot of comments!

What a Cute Belly! Seriously, at 23 weeks I just looked like I gained 15 lbs eating Christmas fudge. :)

Love the Super Nova quilt! Have you thought about entering one of your quilts in the Modern Quilt Guild display that will be at the Spring Quilt Festival in Columbus?

If I had had a notebook as cute as those I might have thought about keeping a nursing journal. I always thought they were something that they told you to do but nobody really did - you know like flossing. ;)

  7. Isn't it nice just to give someone a "little" handmade? I might have to try that grocery bag holder tute! How much longer until baby arrives? I hope you are feeling well. xo

  9. Oh, wow, I need a new bag dispenser. I'm ashamed at how ugly mine is. I may have to jump on that this weekend. Love those journals, btw. I'm in the Label Crew as well - love those little packages. :)
