Farmer's Wife Quilt Along: Sunday Update from the Farm and a little Sesame Street Finish

This week's work on the farm included some mother-daughter time.  My mom came into town for a couple days and we decided to teach her paper piecing during naptime one day.  We started with an easy block "Batwing" so she could get the concept with just a few pieces.

Her first paper piecing experience went much as my first round with it did..... a lot of cursing under your breadth and becoming one with the seam ripper.....  :)  We had just 2 hours, so she was under the gun to get it done - and I kept trying to tell her it took me a whole darn week to get my first circle of geese right!

In the end, I'm not sure she's sold on it, but for me, the paper piecing will be a lifesaver with these Farmer's Wife blocks.  If nothing else, I hope she enjoyed learning something new!

We also managed to hit up one of the LQS while she was here and I, or should I say, my 2 y.o. found this Sesame Street Flannel fabric.  (Let me tell you the panel was absolutely adorable.  Thinking I may have to go back and get it.)  I haven't seen Sesame Street in quilt shop quality fabric before!  So we grabbed a FQ for him, and while Mom was wrestling with the paper piecing, I whipped up this little pillow for my little guy.

It's about 13" finished.  Piped in yellow flannel and used some flannel scraps I had in my stash for the backing.  My little one even helped me stuff it.  I think he likes it!

  1. Cute pillow! I remember when mine were into Sesame Street. Now it's Pokemon and iPods.
I feel your mom's pain on the paper piecing. I do it so few and far between that it takes me a while to get back into it. You both did a great job!

  8. Your mom did a great job. Paper piecing is not one of my favorite ways to make blocks but sometimes it is the best way.
You can't go wrong with Sesame Street with the little ones. My kids loved that show too.
