I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend the Midwest Craft Caucus this weekend. Talk about motivating! The conference was filled with around 100 crafters and artisans of all experience levels, each passionate and obsessed with their craft. This group had energy. Energy to meet, inspire, build connections and help strengthen the handmade community. I gained WAY more from this conference than I expected to. And I was only able to attend Day 1 of the two day conference.
The purpose of the conference was to get the handmade community together to discuss how to effectively build a successful craft business, share information learned by those with more experience, and build community among crafters. I attended most of the “business-y” sessions because I know this information is crucial to me at this point where I am just getting started in pattern design.
If any of you are interested in learning some information about this type of stuff, I’d be willing to do a couple posts from the notes I took. It applies to anyone trying to start a handmade business via etsy, craft fairs, and online shops. Fascinating!
If you have something similar in your area, I’d highly encourage you to attend.
