Farmer's Wife Quilt Along: Yet Another Farmer who's Wife has decided to make 111 quilt blocks

I tried to resist..... but it was no use.  Too many of these cute blocks showing up everywhere!  It's official.  I have begun my Farmer's Wife Quilt Along.

I feel like the worst quilt-alonger ever.  I am notorious for not keeping up with the schedule.  I've finished 2 QAs, both late (this one and that one).  But I have Supernova blocks cut and not single stitch stitched.  I recently bailed on my friend Elizabeth's Kaleidoscope QA because I promised myself I'd finish SuperNova first.

NOW, I go and buy this book!

The thing that really intrigues me is the learning aspect of this quilt.  A chance to try so many blocks (111!), learning from the experience of each one.  Plus, using modern fabrics on traditional blocks....so cool.  So cool.

So I'm thinking Sunday is going to be my FWQA block day.  Maybe I'll have blocks to show every week?  Or continuing in my QA normal mode of operation, maybe I won't.  Whatever.  I'm just going to enjoy going slow on this one.

  1. Gosh, I've resisted this QAL so far, I've just got so much on my plate, but it's getting harder. Your blocks look great, I like your fabric choices.

  2. I'm doing it too. I definitely think it's a good idea to choose a specific day to do the blocks, think I will steal that idea

  3. Hahaha, bite your tongue, Dear Jane! Now that's a commitment! I, too, am a fan of making these blocks a bit more wild with modern fabrics and learning while I go, that's why I gave in. I think your blocks look great so far!!

  5. Oh, you'll be glad you joined, it's so much fun! Your blocks look great. I'm also thinking of dedicating one specific day of the week to FWQA. Good way to stick with it, I think.

I agree that it's going to be a great learning experience. And flipping through the book, I see so many design possibilities for future quilts!

  7. I love your blocks so far. I really like the idea of making a quilt with so many different blocks. You'll never get bored! Are you using your stash for this or did you shop for new fabrics just for this quilt?

  8. My "Jane Gang" is just starting the Farmer's Wife. After Dear Jane it looks fairly simple, however I am trying to print the templates from the CD that came in the book. Is there any way they can be printed other than one per page? To add insult to injury - in the middle of the page!
