Follower Friday: Meet Jamie of Sunflower Seeds

Mar 11, 2011
Pin It F-R-I-D-A-Y!  Is it spring yet?  No, not here either.  Anywho...  Today we have Jamie of Sunflower Seeds on Follower Friday.  She has quilter in her blood - especially when she learned from her mom who owns a quilt shop.  Jamie has been busy making a name for herself... she's a Moda Bakeshop Chef.  Her most recent tutorial posted this week if you haven't seen it already.  Let's learn more about her!

Jamie Mueller from Houston, Texas,
currently living outside of St. Louis, Missouri

Occupation: Quilter and Housewife

Significant Other/Kids/Pets: I've been married to my husband Jon since 2007 and mother to our three cats Ozzie, Izzy and Gibby (who lay on every quilt I make!)

# Years Quilting: I have been around sewing and quilting my entire life.  My Grandmother does amazing embroidery and my Mother owns a quilt shop in Houston called SunFlower Quilts.

How you learned to quilt: I learned everything I know from my Mama!  Without her, I probably wouldn't be as into quilting as I am.  I never had too much time while I was in school, but always collected fabric knowing one day I would use it!  After college, my husband got a great job which allowed me to stay at home and really focus on quilting and pattern design!

Favorite Completed Project Description: it's really hard to choose my favorite quilt because I love them all for different reasons!!  I guess I will choose my Ruffle Quilt because it was featured in the Moda Bake Shop Booth at Quilt Festival in Fall 2010 and will also be featured in the April Issue of Quilter's World Magazine! Photo is of my mom and I in front of the Ruffle Quilt at Quilt Festival.

Quilting Workstation Setup: I took over our garage which was going to be a "man cave" and have everything setup out there.  I have my two sewing machines, a cutting table and LOTS of storage for my fabric hoarding obsession!  My two machines are a Singer 301A and an Elna Quilter's Dream (which is what I do all of my machine quilting with).

The notion/tool I can't live without:  is my chain cutter and seam ripper!!

I love being able to create and make one of a kind gifts!  My family really inspires me and I love them!

There are many ways to keep up with Jamie.  Make sure to stop by and say hi!

  1. Hey Jamie! Nice to meet you! What is a chain cutter?

  2. A chain cutter is a staionary cutting device that sits right next to your machine so when you're done chaining lots of pieces together, instead of scissors, you use this!! My mom created it and we are currently mass producing them to sell/unvail at Quilt Festival in the fall!! We sold the old models at the shop but we just changed it to make it WAY better!! I will post on my blog as soon as they are ready to sell!!

  3. HI Jaime! I love the ruffle quilt!! That chain cutter sounds AWESOME!!

  4. Jamie is GREAT!!! She has several cool designs!! I love her ideas...Her mom and dad's shop is great too. Her patterns are easy to understand too. I made one of her awesome quilts and it went together very quickly. Keep up the great work.
