The first Friday of 2011 - oh, boy!  Follower Friday is going to have a great year....I can tell already by the lineup we have for Jan./Feb. so far!

Today's feature is Ann of A Girl in Paradise.  What really got my attention about Ann is that she started this concept on her blog called "Building Blocks".  She does a tutorial on how to piece a simple block and shows you several different ways to arrange the blocks to get a unique look with each variation.  She does these features to encourage quilters to design their own quilts.  I love to see Ann's Building Blocks tutes as they come out!  Let's learn some more about her...

Ann of Tampa, Florida

Significant Other/Kids/Pets: I am married to a wonderful man and together we have 3 beautiful children, ages 9, 7, and 2 ½. We have no pets. Sorry, but this Momma doesn’t need to take care of any more poop. We prefer to enjoy the pets of our friends and neighbors.

# Years Quilting: Too many! My mother taught me to sew when I was old enough to sit at the machine, and by the time I was in High School I was making most of my own clothes. It wasn’t till after I got married that I got the quilting bug.

How you learned to quilt:  When I started quilting my husband bought me Quilter’s Complete Guide by Fons & Porter. When you thumb through this book the colors are drab and it doesn’t look all too interesting, but it has been a great foundation for the basics. From the basics I am self-taught and enjoy “figuring” things out. Not all my creations have turned out as planned but, oh well, live and learn.

Favorite project:  My Favorite projects are always those that I have recently completed or are currently working on. This is my Apple Core Quilt that is currently in progress. I am doing it all by hand and it has all curved piecing. I love projects that are going to push me past my comfort zone or teach me skills that I haven't yet acquired. Just like the above miniature HST's.

Workstation setup: This is my little slice of paradise, a dark corner of the bedroom that needs better light. Just Kidding! My husband recently took care of my light issue. Thanks Hon! Good thing I married an electrician. :)

  2. Your Apple Core Quilt is one of the nicest I've seen! Beautiful......
