Sew Lefty Sew: Looking for Lefties!

Today is International Left Hander's Day and if you are a Lefty, like me, then you see full reason to celebrate.  The holiday is meant to raise awareness of the inconveniences facing left-handers in a right hand dominated world.  Whether it is the camera button being on the wrong side or the serrated edges on knives making it difficult to cut, Lefties overcome all the obstacles.

Now what does this have to do with sewing?  Because of cross-wiring in the brain, Left-Handed people are supposedly more likely to be creative and visual thinkers.  This makes for a perfect sewist and quilter!

  1. Three of us in the family sew, and our daughter is the lefty. We've got an extra set of scissors for her, but there are a lot of other things we don't always think about, such as using rulers or cutting with rotary tools - oops, she has to face the other way. She makes that sewing machine work, though.

  2. I got my first sewing machine for my 18th birthday and various aunts gave me sewing stuff to go with it including a very expensive pair of dressmaking shears. I couldn't use them as they were right handed but I've never been able to get rid of them either. Even though I've replaced the original machine! Odd I know.
