Welcome to the first Follower Friday! I hope you enjoy reading a little about Gen X/Y Quilters.

Jeanne of Janesville, WI

Occupation: Retail Grunt/Resident Girl Geek at the Local Comic/Gaming Shop

Significant Other/Kids/Pets: Married to JohnPaul for nearly 6 years, mother to Zebediah (2 ½ years old), and owned by 3 cats, Angel, Demon, and Little Bit

# Years Quilting: Since I was 16, so going on 14 years now

Hand or machine piecing/quilting: Everything’s by machine right now, though I look forward to a time when I can do a hand project without little hands grabbing at sharp objects.

How did you learn to quilt?:
A friend of mine got pregnant in high school, and complained about the smallness of commercially available baby quilts. I got the bright idea that I would make her one, and proceeded to check a book out of the library. So, I taught myself, cutting and sewing everything by hand, tracing templates, designing quilts on graph paper, hand-quilting with a lap hoop – all very low tech, all very slow. A light bulb went off in 2002, when I realized that everything I was doing by hand could be done by machine, or otherwise sped up. I got a cheapie sewing machine for that Christmas (long since replaced!), started into rotary cutting, and haven’t looked back!

Favorite Completed Project: My Double Wedding Ring quilt.

Other interests: Cooking, Cleaning, Reading, Writing, Digital Scrapbooking, Collecting and Reading Comic Books, Dungeons & Dragons Fourth Edition. Drawing, Movies, Anime, Jewelry Making/Beading

What Inspires You?:
Primarily color, shape, traditional patterns and fabric. Occasionally, I’ll see a pattern that makes me drool, but I’m awful on the follow-through front. I like to look at other people’s quilt, just for the “Oh, pretty!” factor, but I very rarely replicate other people’s quilts.

Your Quilting Set-Up?:
I took over the second bedroom in our apartment once my son refused to sleep alone. I have a Brother PC-210, the Project Runway Edition, for piecing and simple machine embroidery. I have a Little Gracey II Frame, and Janome 1600P for machine quilting.
